When a winter lake-effect snowstorm decides to drop several feet of snow on the region, state officials, government contractors, and private snow removal companies often have a lot of work ahead of them to clear the snow from the roads. Sometimes, when a large amount of snow falls quickly, your typical snowplow and regular snow removal equipment may not be enough to get the job done.

When that happens, it's time to break out the big equipment—something the New York State Department of Transportation recently had to do when regions like Western New York and New York's Southern Tier received several feet of snow thanks to a lake-effect snowstorm. Some areas in Western New York received well more than three feet of snow.

Not only did more than three feet of snowfall in some areas, but towns like Cattaraugus, Cassadaga, and Dewittville received more than four feet.

When that happens, New York has to take extreme measures to move the snow. That's when they break out one of the largest snowblowers in America.

What do you get when you mix an extra-large snowplow with an even bigger snow blower? Well, when you do, you end up with a huge machine that can move a whole lot of snow.

New York's huge 200-horsepower snowblowers are mounted on front-loaders and can move upwards of two thousand tons of snow per hour. The Empire State has brought back its industrial snowblowers for another year of service to the people of Western New York, and we're glad to see them back in the region.
