New York Proposes Teaching Capitol Riot History In Schools

It goes without saying that people coming up in the modern world need to know a lot about a whole lot to make it today. Times have changed quite a bit over the decades, and to help kids keep pace, there often needs to be adjustments in the curriculum that the young people of America learn.

From computer coding to multiple languages, the world of today moves at a pace our grandparents couldn't even dream of. The expansion of technology in our everyday lives makes it hard to believe that there was a time when we had to do things manually, but now many people and industries couldn't survive without the things we've developed.

However, no matter how far we advance, there will always be a need to know and understand our history, and if a bill that is currently in the New York State Legislature is passed, kids in New York will be required to learn about a pretty significant event for generations to come.

New York Lawmakers Want 'True History' Of January 6th Capitol Riot Taught In Schools

As we approach the 5th anniversary of the riot that shut down the United States Capitol for the first time since the War of 1812, there are some lawmakers in Albany who want to make sure the events of January 6, 2021, are taught to kids in New York State.

In an age when conspiracy theories are able to inspire and incite such wanton political violence, it is more important than ever that our schools equip the next generation with the truth, free from bias, and without prejudice, in order to protect our democracy.

New York State Assembly Bill A3966 / Senate Bill S6123, would direct the New York State Education Department and the State University of New York system to require instruction on the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. capitol and its aftermath in all schools in the state.

The bill, which is in Committee in the State Senate, would amend the state education law to make sure J6 details are required to be taught in the state's curriculum about patriotism, history, civics, and citizenship.
