New York’s Democracy Needs Your Help This Year
One of the most important and unique things about America and its government is that the nation is governed by the people, by the people, and for the people. That means, unlike many nations on Earth, we're able to select the people who represent us.
That ability happens across all levels, from the people on local committees and school boards to the President of the United States; voting for one's leader is one of the true benefits of our republic. Annually, we have the privilege and right to participate in and direct how things are run. It's happened every year since 1788 and will happen again in 2024. This is a Presidential election year, and Tuesday, November 5th, will be here before you know it.
In New York State, several offices are up for election, and according to the Erie County Board of Elections Political Calendar, tons of preparations are underway for this year's election.
However, one thing we have to remember is that voting doesn't just happen. Several things go on behind the scenes, and hundreds of people work daily to make sure election day occurs as smoothly as possible.
We do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.
-Thomas Jefferson, 3rd President Of The United States
If you want to help ensure that democracy works, then there is a job with your name on it.
