Morris Day Thinks Prince ‘Would Be Proud’ of Justin Timberlake’s Prince Tribute
There's no doubt that aside fro The New England Patriots losing to the Philadelphia Eagles, the talk of the Super Bowl was all about Justin Timberlake's halftime performance and his controversial Prince tribute.
First came the rumors that JT was going to use a Prince hologram—which immediately drew harsh criticism from his longtime fans who said Prince wouldn't have been at all happy with that move.
Justin caught it again because his album release party took place at Paisley Park and alcohol was served, even though Prince was a devout Jehovah's Witness and never let liquor be served on the grounds. Fans thought that was disrespectful.
In the end, Justin's performance didn't include a Prince hologram, but rather, a large projected image of Prince, who Justin did a quick duet with before the stadium and surrounding area went purple. That drew mixed reactions too. Well, except from Morris Day of The Time, who thought the performance was cool and thanked Justin for it on Twitter.
"Thank you Justin Timberlake, Prince would be proud... Halftime well done," he wrote.
Of course, a lot of Prince fans didn't care whether the family approved of the tribute, or if Morris Day loved it. All in all, the tribute and performance has definitely been one of the more talked about halftime shows in recent history.
