Most Western New Yorkers are ready for a long weekend and consider Memorial Day the unofficial start to summer here in the 716.

But, Memorial Day is a day for all of us to give thanks to the men and women who gave all and gave their lives while serving our country so we could be free.

This weekend there are lots of ways you can say thanks by attending a ceremony, parade, or Memorial Day event.

Here are some events that are coming up this weekend.

Ken-Ton Memorial Day Parade - The parade will take place on Monday starting at 2:30 pm. The parade is back after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19. The parade will run from Delaware Avenue in the Town of Tonawanda and continue south into the Village of Kenmore, onto Lincoln Boulevard, and will end at Elmwood Avenue

Clarence American Legion Memorial Day Parade -  The parade starts at Krause rod at 11 am and the service will be at noon at the Clarence Town Park.

East Aurora American Legion Memorial Day Motorcycle Procession -  The procession will start at 9:30 and at the American Legion Post 362 at 1 Legion Drive. This event is Rain or Shine and is open to everyone.

Lancaster Parade - A 9 am service will be followed by the parade. The event starts at Lake Avenue Veteran's Park, and the parade continues on Lake Ave. to School, Pleasant, Central, and ends at the Town Hall.

Orchard Park Parade -  The Parade begins at 9 a.m. at the Orchard Park Library and will continue to Veterans Park.  A ceremony at the Orchard Park Veterans’ Park to follow at the conclusion of the parade.

Buffalo Naval Park - There will be a special ceremony on Monday at 10 am at the Buffalo Naval Park near the USS Sullivans.

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra - The BPO will honor our fallen military servicemen and women with the soundtrack of the American spirit.  The performance will take place on Friday, May 27 at 10:30 a.m. and Saturday, May 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Kleinhans Music Hall
