It’s being reported that former 2 Live Crew frontman Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell is running for mayor of Miami-Dade County. According to sources, Campbell filed paperwork this week to run for mayor in the special election scheduled for May 24. Former Mayor, Carlos Alvarez, was ousted in a recall election held on March 15. Luke released a written statement and said he plans to build his campaign around the issues of economic development, public safety, community revitalization and affordable housing. The Luke Records founder also stated that his biggest obstacle may be convincing people he’s more than a novelty. “I don’t expect anyone to just vote for me because I am Uncle Luke,” he wrote in a column that appeared in the Miami Times earlier this year. “They are going to vote for me because Uncle Luke wants to do something about the way this county is headed.”
