The election for the next Governor of New York State is still a few months away but things are getting pretty intense around The Empire State as emotions are running higher than ever. It was a violent night near the Rochester area late Thursday.

While at an appearance on the campaign trail, one of the people running for Governor was attacked by a man who allegedly tried to stab him. Lee Zeldin was speaking in front of a group of people when the man ran at him.

The man appeared to have some sort of sharp object on his hand. Congressman Zedlin is on a campaign tour that runs throughout the state this weekend. After the incident took place, Zeldin Tweeted offering his gratitude for those who help stop the man.

After the attempted stabbing Thursday, New York's current Governor Tweeted her thoughts and condemned the attack.

Later Thursday, two police officers were shot in an ambush that left one of them dead.
