Juelz Santana was released from custody on Friday (April 6) after spending nearly a month in jail for a March 9 incident at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Santana, whose real name is LaRon James, was in jail for allegedly dipping out of the airport and leaving a .38-caliber handgun and oxycodone pills (of which he had no legal prescription for) in his luggage at Newark airport. He eventually turned himself into police three days later.

The Dipset rapper was released on Friday under a $500,000 bond secured by his mother’s Englewood, N.J. home. Outside of the courthouse, Santana told The Record newspaper that he was grateful for his family support through his ordeal. However, he declined to talk about his federal case specifically.

"I'm just happy to be in God's graces," he said. "I was praying every day. He came through for me...just gotta do the right thing, do everything I need to do the right thing so I stay home.”

Judge Michael A. Hammer ordered the 36-year-old rapper on 24-hour house arrest and he must wear an ankle monitor. The rapper also surrendered his passport.

Last week, federal authorities announce that they will prosecute Santana on drug and gun charges. The Harlem rapper could face some serious prison time because of his prior felony conviction out of Bergen County, N.J., which prohibits him from carrying a firearm.

Juelz Santana’s attorney had no comment on the matter.
