Jada Pinkett Smith had some words for Hollywood Foreign Press Association yesterday (Dec. 12). The 2018 nominations for the Golden Globes were released and the film Girls Trip and its breakout actress, comedienne Tiffany Haddish, was not nominated.

It's surprising, especially given the massive success of the film. Girls Trip raked in over $100 million, and was one of the biggest hits of the summer. However, Smith it wasn't reviewed to even be considered for a Golden Globe nomination. In a series of tweets, Smith expressed her frustrations with the entire Hollywood system.

"Girls Trip was one of the most successful films this summer & Tiff was hands down the funniest person on screen in 2017 and we couldn't get eyes on the film or a press conference. How could a nom happen & how much more critical acclaim must a movie have to simply get a screening?"

Smith went on to make the public aware that while Haddish wasn't nominated for a Golden Globe, she was asked to present at the ceremony.

"This isn't about shaming, this is about the need for discussion of an antiquated system," she wrote.

Girls Trip isn't the only film that has people raising eyebrows at the Golden Globes. There's also been controversy surrounding Jordan Peele's psychological horror film, Get Out's, placement in the comedy category, especially given the film's serious critique of racism— a point Smith made sure to illuminate as well.

And of course, this isn't the first time that Smith has been vocal in voicing her opinion about Hollywood's awards systems. A couple of years ago, she called out the Academy Awards, prompting the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag that circulated for the following two years.
