Heading into the round 2 match-up with the Montreal Canadiens, the Buffalo Sabres were the slight favorites to win. They had home ice advantage and were coming off their first series win in years. That has all now changed.

Odds Buffalo Sabres Win Series Against Montreal

After 5 games, the Montreal Canadiens hold a 3-2 lead over the Sabres in the best-of-seven series, with Game 6 set for tonight in Montreal.

The odds that the Sabres win tonight and again on Monday night in Game 7 have taken a massive drop. According to moneypuck.com, the Sabres have the worst odds of any NHL team still playing in the 2nd round to make it to round 3.

The odds of them winning the series against Montreal are now at only 26%, well down from over 50% when the series first started.

The good news is that the away team has won 3 out of 5 games on the road, and the Sabres are in Montreal tonight. The Sabres have played well on the road so far this playoff season, and could force a game 7.

The bad news for the Sabres is that history is against them. They have never won a series where they have fallen down 2 games to 1, which they did against Montreal.

Will this be the series they break that streak? Odds makers don't think so.
