Hopefully sea turtles like snow, or at least see it from their habitat.

The Aquarium of Niagara recently took in an endangered sea turtle after he was found in Florida suffering from wounds that were consistent with a boat strike.

Squirt moved to the Aquarium earlier this year and will spend the rest of his life being taken care of by the staff while entertaining thousands of visitors who stop by the Aquarium.

According to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Squirt was found back in 2015 floating in the Peace River in Punta Gorda, Florida. He was taken from the river and brought to an aquarium in Sarasota Florida to be evaluated for his injuries. After his evaluation, it was deemed that he was too injured to return to the wild.

From there, Squirt continued to grow and it was determined that he needed to be moved into a larger facility. This is where the Aquarium of Niagara came in. The Not-For-Profit Aquarium spent nearly $175,000 to make the necessary improvements to allow Squirt to come to Western New York.

Gary Siddall, president and chief executive officer at the Aquarium of Niagara told me that the Aquarium also had to undergo extensive reviews in order to make sure they were up to date on everything that Squirt needed to call this his forever home.
