If you didn't fill up your gas tank over the weekend, you can expect to pay a lot more at the pump today. Gas prices continue to increase around Western New York.
Gas Prices Skyrocketing Across Western New York
The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas took a huge jump over the past 7 days. Last week, the average price for that gallon of unleaded gas was $3.06 per gallon, according to AAA.
The price for that same gallon of gas today is now, on average, $3.40 per gallon, according to AAA.
The ongoing war in Iran is being blamed for the cost increase in gas around the country and here in Western New York. On average, prices have jumped nearly 17% across the country since the start of the conflict.
Another Big Jump In Gas Prices Coming Soon In Western New York
Gas prices are expected to increase as the war continues and then we will see a nig jump again in May as gas suppliers have to switch over to the summer blend of gas, which is more expensive to produce.
Gas suppliers have to switch over to the summer blend, which uses more additives to keep it from becoming combustible in the warmer summer months by May 1st. Gas stations have until June 1st to make the switch over from the winter blend to the summer blend.

Since the summer blend costs more to produce, the cost is pushed down to the gas stations and finally to people filling up their rides.
