It looks like it wasn't only people who have been affected by the bad weather across New York.

Last week many of us were out shoveling or snow-blowing our driveways and had to adapt our days due to travel bans.

Well, the snowy weather has also led to a change in behavior for a dangerous animal.

As they look for food and warm places to rest, the snow has forced some of the coyotes out of their normal areas and into places where there is more of a chance for human interaction.

If you happen to run into a coyote in your neighborhood, here is what to do.

  • Stop where you are and yell at the coyote to make it go away.
  • Make yourself look bigger than normal by waving your arms above your head.
  • Maintain eye contact with the animal. It establishes a sense of dominance.
  • Maintain a safe distance. Never walk towards the animal. Try to back up slowly and create more distance between you and the coyote.
