For years, Buffalo and Western New York have been hotbeds for sports and sports stars. Many people from outside the region may not think so, especially since we're only known for snow and wings, but those of us who are tired of Buffalo being a secret know the truth: Buffalo is the place to be and the place to be from.

Just think of all the sports greats who have a connection to the 716. From Rob Gronkowski and Daryl Johnston to Jack Eichel and Bob Lanier, Western New York has no shortage of great people in sports history.

Now, one of the greats in sports entertainment is about to be given an honor that few in professional wrestling have ever had.

Buffalo Born Wrestling Legend Heading To Hall of Fame

Born in Western New York, Lawrence Wendell Pfohl, better known by his ring name, Lex Luger, is due to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame for a lifetime of achievements inside and outside the squared circle.

According to WIVB-TV, Lex will be among those honored before Wrestlemania 41 in Las Vegas as a member of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2025.

Lugar grew up in Orchard Park, New York, before attending the University of Miami, where he had a standout football career. He then spent several years in the CFL, USFL, and NFL, playing for the Montreal Alouettes, Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Bandits, Memphis Showboats, and Jacksonville Bulls.

After his football career ended in 1985, Lugar began a career in professional wrestling, which lasted more than 30 years.

Having spent time as a member of multiple wrestling promotions, Luger has earned numerous achievements, including being the WCW World Heavyweight Championship twice, the WCW World Television Championship twice, and the second-ever WCW Triple Crown Champion.

In 2007, Luger experienced a spinal stroke and has dealt with paralysis since then, having largely been confined to a wheelchair. However, after consistent work with another former wrestler, Diamond Dallas Page, Luger can stand again and hopes to walk again.

The 2025 WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas.
