It's been a while but the Buffalo Sabres are back to work.

The players reported to training camp at KeyBank Center on Thursday, with veterans and prospects all on the ice, as the team prepares for the 2023-2024 season.

The Sabres play their first preseason game on Sunday at the Washington Capitals this Sunday.

Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch, Jeff Skinner, Dylan Cozens, JJ Peterka, Rasmus Dahlin, Mattias Samuelsson and Owen Power are the foundation of the roster; and they now have Devon Levi in net, who will be embarking on his first full NHL season.

Could the Sabres add another young star to their roster? That could be the case.

Many media members and fans are talking about the situation with the Anaheim Ducks and forward Trevor Zegras.

Zegras is 22 years old and has broken out as a young star for the team. However, there's belief the Ducks want to start all over and Zegras could be on the way out, since he could be a piece in a trade to get picks and prospects back.

The report says the Ducks are looking for an average of $3-4 million per season for Zegras and the Sabres are a team looking that way for a potential trade.

The problem here is the Sabres would have to give Zegras a new contract. Yes, they have the money to do that right now but they have contract extensions they are worrying about with Dahlin and Power.

Then there's the worry of what Buffalo would have to give up? This would likely mean a top prospect like Jiri Kulich, Matthew Savoie or Zach Benson would be going to Anaheim, with a high draft pick and more.
