Many students across New York State are headed back to school this week, and they are coming to big changes waiting for them.

There will be two things you won't have to worry about this school year if you have kids in school between kindergarten and 12th grade.

All Students In New York Will Get Free Breakfast and Lunch

A new policy passed by the New York State government as part of the state budget provides free breakfast and lunch for all students in New York State, no matter what.


The universal free breakfast and lunch program will be available to all students in all schools across New York State. There is nothing that parents or guardians have to do. You don't have to sign up, you don't have to provide income data, all your kids have to do is head to the cafeteria and grab some free food.

The universal free breakfast and lunch program isn't the only new change for schools in New York State this year.

Cell Phones Banned At Schools In New York State

New York State is also banning the use of cell phones by students during the school day. Every school has to have a plan in place before school starts to conform to the new policy.
