Rick Jeanneret’s 5 Most Legendary Calls For The Buffalo Sabres
Talent like Rick Jeanneret's is one in a million. The only thing that Buffalo Sabres fans would cling to more than a cup dream, was his voice.
How many times have you watched or listened to a Buffalo Sabres game without Rick Jeanneret on the play-by-play? It's never the same. And there's never any disrespect meant towards all the other people who have filled in over the years or taken over since he retired. He is just a once-in-a-lifetime talent.
He was been behind the microphone for the Sabres from 1971 until he retired in 2022 and has given us so many memories.
How many times have you heard him scream "Top shelf, where mama hides the cookies!"? Or "MAAAAAAYYYYYYDAAY MAAAAADDDAYYYY!!!"? Or the simple phrase that the Sabres were going "To OOOOOOOOOOOooooooovertime."
They're legendary. They will live with us forever and will always be a part of Buffalo Sabres history.
What always amazed me about Jeanneret was the fact that he was just as excited in 2022 about this team as he was in 1971 when he started. You could just tell that not only did he love hockey but that he was the biggest Sabres fan there was.
Last night, we received the news that after years of multiple organ failure, Jeanneret had passed away with his family by his side. He was 81 years old.
What better way to remember him, than with some of the calls that stick with us, even years after those games have passed, still stick in our heads as if he had just called them last night?
There are so many great calls from Jeanneret. It was hard to narrow it down to just 5. Here are just a handful of the best calls ever from Rick Jeanneret.
