The fire was a massive 4-alarm fire at 747 Main Street in a building that housed a costume shop.  The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Crews fought the fire all morning and into the afternoon.  Around noon today, an announcement was made that there was one firefighter that at the time was unaccounted for.

Tragically, it has been confirmed that he has been found and is deceased.

According to Jeff Russo from WKBW, the firefighter was a 37-year-old that worked out of Engine 2 at Elmwood and Virginia.

The building was occupied by a company called DC Theatricks, a business that provided wardrobes and costumes to theaters in the nearby district.  They were also known for providing mascot costumes to sports teams in the area.

It was also confirmed today that the building was purchased by former congressman Chris Jacobs just 2 months ago in December for $1.3M.  He was hoping to fix the building up.

This is a developing story and there will be much more to come in the next few days.  At this point, we extend our thoughts to the family of the fallen firefighter and to the brave men and women who stood beside him today.  The next couple of weeks, months, and years are going to be tough on our community but especially on each one of them.  We are forever grateful for the sacrifices of these brave men and women.
