Alfred State Student Fighting For His Life After Gang Attack

It's not something that you normally hear about in Alfred, NY.  A student was attacked by a gang and is in a coma.  Now, the family is looking for your help.

Where is Alfred?

Alfred, NY is a small town.  You'll find it in Eastern Allegheny County near Wellsville, New York.  It's most alive when the students are in classes.  The town is home to two well-known colleges in Western New York.  On one side of the valley is Alfred State College, and across the street on the other side is Alfred University.  Most of what happens there is college sports or clubs.  For the most part, it's a quiet place (compared to other college towns).

Alfred State is shocked by a gang attack

Many are shocked today after hearing the president of Alfred State College make an announcement that one of their students was attacked by a gang of 4 people.  He didn't give many details about the attack but did say that the attack resulted in the student being left in a coma and fighting for his life.

He added that the 4 men who are accused of the crime were in no way a part of the Alfred State community.

The student's name is Derek Correa

The student who was attacked has been identified as Derek Correa.  He's a first-year student who just joined Alfred in August of 2023.  He was pursuing a degree in CNC Machinery. His family has set up a GoFundMe page to not only help pay for expenses but to also keep people updated on Derek's progress.
