$10 Fill-Your-Own Buckets of Salt Available is Huge for New York State
The price is now 10 bucks for a bucket of salt.
There is a massive shortage of salt in Western New York right now and it is not only affecting people at their homes, but businesses and towns all across New York State. If you go to Home Depot, Lowes, Hector's Hardware, ACE or virtually any hardware store, you will have a hard time finding salt to melt the ice that has been piling up on your driveway for the past week.
This week is not getting any better either.
The temperatures all across New York State are going to be staying under 20 degrees for the most part causing the ice to stick around. In addition, there are parts of the State that are going to be getting hit with more snow. On the east side of New York State there are wind warnings that will exceed over 60 miles per hour.
But, there is one company who not only has TONS of salt, but is going to give it to you at a very fair price. Who has salt for ice in Western New York?
N.E.Bretherton Soil and Stone on Main Street in Clarence, New York. The address is 11520 Main St, Clarence, NY 14031.
They have over 80 TONS of salt that they want to make sure you have so, if you bring your own 5 gallon bucket, you are welcome to fill it up for 10 bucks. The price was originally lower when they started offering it to the public. 10 dollars for a 5 gallon bucket is a great price still. You will likely have to start lining up in your car on the street. Over the weekend there were so many people there that it was about a 2 hour wait to get to the building.
They are asking you that if you are coming for salt to please not try and go around back and steal the salt.
“It’s an issue because we’ve had customers, probably about four people who have come this morning that spent the night in the hospital with their wives, their husbands, grandmothers, you name it,” said Nick Bretherton, who operates N.E. Bretherton Soil and Stone. “They have broken bones, stitches from slipping", according to WIVB.com.
Take a look at the video below of how crazy it was on Sunday afternoon when word got out.
