An historic Orchard Park restaurant was broken into before it had the chance to reopen, following Erie County's broadening of COVID-19 safety measures.

The Mansard Fine Drink and Eatery was broken into at some point Saturday. The trespassers damaged all three floors of the restaurant, according to WIVB.

The restaurant's owners think the intruders broke in through the basement window.

According to WIVB:

"After hearing from a maintenance worker that their basement window had been smashed, Becky and Mike Morgan rushed to their restaurant to see the damage. It turned out to be more than that."

“They stole money from us. They stole money from the register down here, and upstairs in the office. There’s a stain-glass window that was here with the original building that’s been here for 50 years. And they smashed through that stain-glass window,” said Owner, Becky Morgan.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the restaurant. They had been planning to reopen. The burglars also left the freezer doors open, spoiling all the food stocked for the restaurant's reopening.

“Now, reopening… we have to rebuy everything,” said Owner, Mike Morgan to WIVB. “From beer, liquor, food, you know we can’t just use what was here.”
