Girls Trip just made history as the first film starring, directed, produced and written by African-Americans to reach the $100 million mark! Woot!
After four weeks at the theaters, the raunchy comedy surpassed the $100 million milestone at the domestic box office, making it the first comedy to do so in 2017. It’s also the second title to reach $100 million this week.
Without the people behind the scenes, this wouldn’t be possible.
Tracy Oliver teamed up with Kenya Barris (“black-ish”) to pen the script. Will Packer put on his producing hat for the film and Malcolm D. Lee helmed the project. The production team is what made Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish shine so brightly at the box office. Not to mention, the movie was funny as hell
So far, the flick has raked in a cool $9.9 million internationally. We still have to wait and see what they'll bring in from Australia and Romania and the film isn't expected to hit theaters there until August 31st.
