Frank Ocean Hit With a $14.5 Million Lawsuit from His Father
Frank Ocean is getting sued by his own father for allegedly defaming his good name.
According to TMZ, the singer’s father, Calvin Cooksey, filed a defamation lawsuit against Ocean citing a Tumblr post he wrote last year about the tragic mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla. In his missive, Ocean reflects on a traumatizing memory of his father.
“I was six years old when I heard my dad call our transgender waitress a f----- as he dragged me out a neighborhood diner saying we wouldn’t be served because she was dirty,” he wrote. “That was the last afternoon I saw my father and the first time I heard that word, I think, although it wouldn’t shock me if it wasn’t.”
Cooksey says the post defamed his character and ruined his opportunities he had in film and music. He wants his son to pay him $14.5 million in monetary damages.
On a side note: Cooksey has filed a similar lawsuit in the past. In 2014, he sued Russell Simmons for defamation and was seeking $142 million.
Reps for Frank Ocean had no comment on the matter.
