Multi-Million Townhouse Project Coming To Buffalo’s Willert Park
It's been known for quite a while that Buffalo and Western New York have an affordable housing problem. For many years, there has been a lack of safe and affordable housing units on both the home sales and apartment rental sides.
Over the last couple of years, we have seen a few new developments take shape in Buffalo. Several market-rate and income-stabilized units have either come online or are under construction. What we've seen being built has not been enough to stem the tide as today, but it's a start, which is what we need in Buffalo.
Along these lines, a developer recently announced a multi-million dollar development that will add several townhouses to Buffalo, a neighborhood that has seen some new activity over the last few years.
In 2021, SA+A|EVI Development completed The Forge, a 195,000-square-foot apartment housing development with 158 mixed-income units in Buffalo's Willert Park Neighborhood. That development, built on the former Buffalo Forge Manufacturing Plant site, brought many needed housing units to an area that has been neglected in Buffalo for many years.
That project was phase one of a multi-phase development, and according to Buffalo Business First, SA+A|EVI Development is ready to take on the next phase of its master plan.
The next phase of this project calls for the construction of 22 townhomes on 1.5 acres of land on Spring Street between Sycamore Street and Broadway. Those townhomes will be split into different configurations, costing $12.67 million to build.
These units, when completed, will be offered for sale at market rate prices to buyers.
