Bystanders recorded a fight between quite a few shoppers at the recently reopened Walden Galleria on Tuesday, July 14.  In the video, which WIVB posted, you can see a bunch of folks fighting. The reason for the fight is not made clear in the video. Although Cheektowaga Police were called and arrived on the scene, they don't have an exact number of how many people were involved in the altercation.

“The video of it was pretty sensational. It showed a lot of people involved in a hand to hand fight, however, by the time the calls come into our dispatch, the officers respond and make it all the way into the mall, the combatants were already on their way everybody went different directions.” ~ Brian Gould Assistant Chief Cheektowaga Police Department via WIVB

The fight occurred a few days after the mall reopened on Friday, July 10.  Even though we were already in phase four of reopening, malls were not permitted to open until New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, gave the green light. Pyramid Management, the management group that runs the Walden Galleria released a statement that reads, in part:

"The health and safety of our guests and tenants will continue to be our highest priority. The isolated incidents that recently took place are absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. It’s incredibly unfortunate that the unacceptable behavior from such a small group of individuals has to disrupt the experience for the 99.9% of our shoppers who have behaved wonderfully."

Hopefully no one catches COVID-19, because the people involved in the fight definitely were not social distancing!
