How You Can Help FeedMore WNY on Hunger Action Day
September is Hunger Action Month® and FeedMore WNY is highlighting the need in our local communities by joining Feeding America on Hunger Action Day this Friday, September 23, 2022. You can help fight hunger in Buffalo and the surrounding area by participating in several ways.
As we recently experienced with the May 14 shooting at the Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue, there is a real need for many families in our community. FeedMore WNY stepped up and stepped in to help when many were struggling with getting groceries due to the tragedy.
That's just one of the reasons it is so important to help support FeedMore WNY. Tara. A. Ellis, President and CEO of FeedMore WNY said,
One in eight people in our four-county service area lives with food insecurity. Being food insecure means you do not have consistent access to enough food for a healthy and active lifestyle. According to Feeding America’s annual Map the Meal Gap study, food insecurity is 25% higher here than the state average. An estimated 164,830 people, 12.4% of our service area, are food insecure. Among children, the percentage is even worse and the food insecurity can have life-long consequences for them.
