Youth Summer Jobs Will Soon Be Available in Erie County
Once again this summer the Erie County Department of Social Services is looking to sponsor hundreds of young adults throughout Erie County and give them the opportunity to earn money while gaining valuable work experience through the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).
This year's Summer Youth Employment program runs for a total of eight (8) weeks, from Monday, July 11, 2022, through Friday, August 26, 2022, and young adults who live in Erie County between the ages of 14 and 20-years-old are able to apply. Those who participate in the program can be placed at all sorts of different worksites across the county and will work 20-hours-per-week while earning the New York State minimum wage of $13.20 per hour.
To apply, you must meet the following guidelines:
- The applicant must be a resident of Erie County, New York,
- The applicants must be between 14 and 20-years-old, and
- The household must meet income eligibility guidelines, which is less than or equal to 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.
- A household is considered automatically eligible if they receive any of the following benefits:
- Temporary Assistance,
- Medicaid,
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP),
- Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) benefits, or
- the youth applicant receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

If you meet those qualifications, then you can submit a completed application to the Comprehensive Employment Division of the Erie County Department of Social Services, located at 290 Main St., on the 10th floor.
