New York Residents may want to start stocking up on items they need. According to experts and retailers, consumers in New York should brace themselves for empty store shelves and increased prices. This is all due to tariffs on China. Trump recently said he would put 100 percent tariffs on Mattel after the CEO explained that tariffs on China would not force the company to bring manufacturing jobs back to America. People who believe manufacturing is coming back to the U.S. in a major way are being sold a bill of goods. Most companies plan to move manufacturing to other countries, like India or find other ways around Trump's tariffs.

New Yorkers' Wallets Will Be Impacted By Tariffs

Even though prices were supposed to decrease on day one of the new administration, they haven't, so families are already struggling. I was shopping at Dollar Tree and there were already empty shelves. Experts say it will only get worse in the coming weeks and months if Trump does not back off his economy-damaging tariffs. New York families are the ones who pay the tax, which is exactly what tariffs are. According to Newsweek, several major retailers are stopping their shipments from China. This will spell disaster for American consumers. It's not like there will be an abundance of American-made products available tomorrow. Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka said,

"According to our own port optimizer, which measures the loadings in Asia, we'll be down just a little bit over 35 percent next week compared to last year," Seroka said. "And it's a precipitous drop in volume with a number of major American retailers stopping all shipments from China based on the tariffs."

With low supply and high demand comes increased prices. As goods begin to disappear, consumers should expect to pay more for the items they need. The chaos and pain caused by Trump's tariff's will be here sooner than you think, per Molson Hart, CEO of a consumer products company. Hart told the U.S. Mirror that the impact of the trade war will begin showing up in stores tomorrow, May 10, 2025, and that product shortages and increased prices will be noticeable in the coming weeks.

I guess the only good thing is that those New Yorkers who believe the fallout from Trump's tariffs is not "fake news," can stock up now. There is a certain group of people who won't believe it until they see it. The rest of us can stock up on the things we'll need in the next few weeks or months while they live in denial.
