Drake’s ‘So Far Gone’ Mixtape Re-Release Ties Future’s Billboard Chart Record
According to a report Billboard published Thursday (Feb. 28), the project, which premiered on Apple Music, Tidal and the like in honor of its 10-year anniversary, has just topped the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Since this is the ninth time he's done so, Drizzy now ties with Future for the most Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart No. 1's this decade.
Nielsen Music reports that So Far Gone moved at least 45,000 equivalent album units in the mixtape's opening week, which put Drake at the top of the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Both Drizzy and Future have traded the achievement back and forth over the past year after Future took the lead by dropping Future Hndrxx Presents…The WZRD back in January. Following Future Hendrix, Chris Brown, J. Cole, The Game and The Weeknd share third place with five number one albums each over the past ten years.
Drake knew the re-release of So Far Gone would make an impact on his fans, and those who were involved with the project. Ahead of the 10-year anniversary of the mixtape, Champagne Papi hit up Instagram to thank everyone who contributed to the album, including his on-again-off-again friend, Kanye West.
"@kanyewest a decade ago I rapped over your beat cause you just made the best shit and even though you stay wildin on twitter these days I will never forget what you contributed to the game and my career," Drake wrote in his caption, which features a photo of the mixtape cover.
Congratulations to Drake and his team!
