A Los Angeles Superior Court jury has ordered legendary producer and rapper Dr. Dre and Interscope Records co-founder Jimmy Iovine to pay more than $25 million in royalties to ex-partner Steven Lamar, who claims he was behind the original designs for the first Beats headphones.

As we previously reported, Lamar filed a $100 million lawsuit against the music moguls two years ago after they breached the terms of their original contract. However, Iovine and Dr. Dre, whose real name is Andre Romelle Young, testified that Lamar was only involved with the design of the first Beats headphone model and was already compensated. On Wednesday, the jury disagreed and found that Lamar was entitled to royalties from three Beats headphone models for a total of $25,247,350.

In a statement to Billboard Lamar's lawyer Brian Melton said the following:

For anybody who has a great idea and brings it to a company and then doesn't get the recognition or credit that they're due ... what this jury verdict says is, if that happens to you and you're a little person, you can go into court and have a jury of American citizens determine whether you're right or wrong. And if you're right, you get the credit that you're owed. That's what I felt when I heard the jury verdict. It indicated four years of hard work in this case of standing side-by-side with Mr. Lamar, through the ups and downs, and going against one of the biggest companies in the world with some of the best lawyers in the world.

Meanwhile, Dr. Dre is working on a Marvin Gaye film. After starring in HBO's The Defiant Ones with Iovine, and producing the critically acclaimed film Straight Outta Compton, the "Ain't Nuthin But A G Thang" rapper is currently in the early stages of creating a film about the life of Gaye. So far no release date has been announced.
