When you hear explosions in your town it tends to make people worry.  But the West Seneca Police wanted to ensure people that it was nothing to worry about.

Last night just after 9pm, the West Seneca Police department started to get calls from concerned people stating that they were hearing strange explosions in the south towns.

The good news is that there was nothing to worry about, according to the police, the sounds that they were hearing were coming from Highmark BlueCross BlueShield Stadium as the Bills were getting ready for a big celebration.

Of course, the last part was just the West Seneca Police with their own sense of humor.  Although, someone did have to correct it from next season's AFC Championship victory to "Super Bowl victory."

A couple people did respond with comments about how their dogs were going a little crazy because of the noise.  We deal with this sometimes too when fireworks go off in our neighborhood.

There are some things you can do to calm them when this comes up.  The thing that seems to work best for us is to turn on the TV.  Normally we just turn it on a little louder than normal to kind of "mask" the sound of the fireworks.

The problem with the fireworks last night was that people didn't have time to prepare for them.  On the 4th of July, for instance, most people know they're coming and they can do things like walking their dogs in the daytime to tire them out and to create spaces in their home where the dogs can go to hide when they start.

The best thing you can do is to just try to keep them safe.  Don't let your pet outside without a fenced in yard or without being tied up when there are fireworks.  If they get scared, they might run away to find somewhere safe.
