Did JAY-Z turn down an offer to perform at the Grammys?

According to "sources" over at Hits Daily Double, the veteran rapper declined to perform at the awards ceremony, which will take place this Sunday.

Jay is up for eight awards this year, more than any other artist, for his album 4:44, a study on black empowerment, manhood and relationships.

If it is true that Jay isn't performing, he'll be breaking this year's flow-- as all of the major nominees will hit the stage, from Kendrick Lamar who is up for seven awards, to Bruno Mars, who is nominated for six awards, to Childish Gambino, who's up for five awards. Cardi B will also perform (she's nominated for two awards) as well as SZA, who is up for five awards including Best New Artist.

Grammy speculation aside, Jay is up for another honor. The rap mogul and his mother, Gloria Carter, will be honored at this year's GLAAD Media Awards for their 4:44 collaboration "Smile," where Gloria shares her coming out story.

The Grammys will air this Sunday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m. EST on CBS.
