As gym owners protested about gyms remaining closed, it doesn't look like their is any reopening in sight. Governor Cuomo considers gyms to be problematic and says they will not reopen anytime soon. The governor says that health experts say gyms are a potential major problem when it comes to the spread of COVID-19, according to WIVB. During a conference call yesterday, August 7, Cuomo announced that gyms will stay closed.

As a gym member myself, I am torn on this. I am definitely feeling out of shape, since it's been about 4 or 5 months since I've been able to go to my gym. I also agree with Cuomo and health experts that it's difficult to safely reopen gyms. I was already skeptical about the cleanliness of gyms before COVID-19. "But we'll be sanitizing and cleaning constantly," is what gyms say. Yeah, but, I've seen it with grocery stores, restaurants and retail - they start out cleaning and sanitizing, then it slowly goes away. That's the part that worries me. Until it's safe, I guess I'll find other ways to stay physically fit.
