COVID-19 rates in Western New York are on the rise and unvaccinated people are at risk. We were so ready for "outside" to finally re-open again, but authorities are warning us that the danger still exists. It's easy to get caught up in being active again, however, we are seeing a rise in infections. The current COVID-19 infection rate in WNY is 1.4 percent, according to WIVB.  Erie County Executive, Mark Poloncarz, told the television station that 90 percent of the new cases are in people who have not been vaccinated.  He also said that all the people who are hospitalized are unvaccinated.

The Erie County Department of Health tweeted an update on COVID-19 cases here in WNY,

COVID-19 cases for 7/18: 18 new cases confirmed by ECDOH. 178 total cases over past 7 days. 19 total new cases per 100,000 Erie County residents over past 7 days. Total cases through 7/11 are now 89,478. Total reflects cases transferred into/out of EC based on residence.

Erie County Hosting Vaccination Pop-Up Events This Week

If you are still aren't vaccinated, but are ready, Erie County has quite a few vaccination events this week. According to a tweet from Erie County Executive, Mark Poloncarz on July 14, 2021, 64% of the eligible population in the county has been vaccinated,

"As of yesterday, 507,265 Erie County residents are fully vaccinated against #COVID19—that's 64% of the eligible population (12+). This is great news, but we can and must do better. If you have not done so, please #GetVaccinated!"
