Costco shoppers in New York will need to find another place to shop soon. Costco has been in the news a lot lately after standing on business and refusing to end its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives. Costco has seen an increase in business and is being rewarded by consumers for ensuring that Veterans, women, the elderly, the disabled, and other groups have the same opportunities to work and advance as other groups that have historically received preference. To those people who are mad at Costco or boycotting it because of its stance on DEI, I can say that your efforts seem to be in vain (opposite of those boycotting Target).

Many companies, like Costco, are rejecting anti-DEI movements by right-wing groups. Regardless of what fringe extremists are demanding, according to CNN, more than 98% of Costco shareholders voted against an anti-DEI proposal brought by the National Center for Public Policy Research. If you are a New Yorker who supports Costco, you will need to make plans to shop ahead of time or elsewhere this month.

One of the benefits of working at Costco versus some other retailers is that employees get certain holidays off so they can spend time with their friends and families. Costco closes all of its stores for 7 days every year. Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 26, 2025. All Costco stores will be closed on that day, so plan to do your shopping ahead of time or find another store. You also might want to make a note of the other holidays on which Costco will close its stores.
