Clearing Roads In Buffalo After The Blizzard Is Expected To Take Days
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but even though the blizzard has ended, many roads will remain impassable. Snow is still falling, which makes it more difficult to clear roads. It is expected to continue to snow into tonight, possibly tomorrow.
Yesterday, Sunday, December 25, 2022, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown warned residents that it will take days for some roads to be plowed. He said that plowing has been done on many main and secondary roads. As for residential streets, many have not been cleared.
Mayor Brown told WBEN,
This is absolutely going to take days. We need the public to work with us so we can keep people safe.
The travel ban has been lifted in parts of Erie County. However, it appears the travel ban within the City of Buffalo is still in place.
The following state routes remain closed for safety until weather conditions improve: * Route 5 (I-90 to Big Tree) * Route 219 (I-90 to Peters Road) * Route 400 (I-90 to Route 16) * I-90 (through Niagara County) * I-290 (entire) * Route 198 (entire) * I-990 (entire)
If you hire a private snow plow to help clear your driveway and street, they cannot charge you higher prices because of the storm. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz issued a warning,
