Chrisette Michele Responds to Backlash Over Her Instagram Posts

Chrisette Michele revealed to the world her past struggles in a series of post on Instagram. However, some folks on Twitter weren’t sympathetic to her messages - especially since she performed at President Trump’s inaugural party back in January - and they reminded her of that with slanderous tweets.

Michele went on social media to addressed the backlash from people who felt her struggle posts were a publicity stunt. If you haven’t seen them, the R&B singer revealed that she had suicidal thoughts, a miscarriage and was dropped from her label after she decided to perform for Trump.

But Michele wasn’t the only one. Gospel singer Tina Campbell is also getting backlash after she revealed that she voted for Donald Trump because of his views on Christianity.

In response to the social media slander, Michele reached out to Campbell and told her that people are “choice shaming” them.

"Adults do this thing I'd like to call 'choice shaming,'" she wrote to Campbell. "It mimics what children do with bullying. It causes a silencing that mutes the people who have made great contributions."

"We can disagree without division. Stay #StrongBlackWoman," she concluded.

Michele then responded to political analyst Roland Martin who explained to her why black folks have turned their backs on her and Campbell on social media.

Finally, Michele thanked her supporters for their well-wishes and understanding.

"Thank you to all of the well-wishers for the prayers and emails sharing your very own similar struggles," she wrote on her Instagram page. "It's so good to know that my story has inspired so many of you! I hope my music will continue to inspire and strengthen."
