Tuesday night Sabres games at KeyBank Center might not exactly be the hottest ticket in town right now, but it was a pretty cool experience last night if you went.

Not because of what the Sabres did — they were shutout 2-0 — but the amazing play that Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras made, flipping the puck over the net and having teammate Sonny Milano bat it in out of mid-air.

The play made highlight reels across the country and went viral on social media.

I was at the game last night and it was pretty surreal. It was also quite the experience because of who was sitting two rows in front of us at the game last night.

We were in the 100-level and two rows in front of us were three younger guys (20’s maybe) who were rooting for the Ducks. They all had Jamie Drysdale jerseys, each a different version of the Ducks number 34 jersey.

My friends and I noticed that all three were extremely vocal about the game and just the overall enthusiasm they had for Drysdale himself. We were like “do they know him or something?”

After the second period, they all had left. That’s when a guy (also in front of us) turned around and said “the guy in the middle was Jamie Drysdale’s brother. Which made all the sense in the world with how into it they were.

I’ve sat at a Bills game before in the players’ family section, so it’s not the first time I’ve been around that kind of experience, but the arena was only half full and you could notice them more because of that.

Drysdale is one of the best young defenseman in the NHL and he’s only 19. If he goes on to have a Hall of Fame career, it’s a story I’ll have forever. I probably will anyway.
