The City of Buffalo and the Rental Assistance Corporation of Buffalo (RACB) recently announced that they are opening the Section 8 Program waiting list. This will allow people to begin applying for the program again. Before this announcement, most people were not able to apply for the program because the waiting list was closed due to limited funds being available.
The Rental Assistance Corporation of Buffalo (RACB) is the program administrator for the City of Buffalo Housing Choice Voucher program and currently serves around 5,000 families throughout Erie County. Officials expect to offer up to 2,000 new Housing Choice Vouchers (HCVs) every year, with the exact number dependent on exactly how much money is made available by the federal government.
You do not have to be a resident of the City of Buffalo to apply, but people who work and live in Erie County will be given preference over those who live and/or work outside of Erie County. Anyone can apply for the Section 8 program, but there are income guidelines. Your household income, that is the applicant and everyone else who lives in the house must be below 50% of the Area Median Income, so for a family of 4 that equates to an annual income of $39,450 for a family of 4.
RACB will begin accepting applications on Monday, April 11 at 10 a.m. People will have until Friday, May 6, 2022, at 3 p.m. to ensure their completed application is submitted to RACB.
To apply, or to find out more information, you can visit the RACB website here, or you can call them at (716) 882-0063.
