This Friday, February 26, 2021, Betty Jean Grant and We Are Women Warriors will be distributing personal protective gear for free. According to a press release emailed to me from Betty Jean Grant, the former Erie County Legislator will be distributing free PPE to Buffalo residents. The organization will be giving out the items in front of Grant's Variety Shoppe delicatessen, located at 1055 East Ferry Street in Buffalo. The event will begin at 12 noon and last until supplies are gone. Each person will receive five disposable masks, two reusable masks, a 2-ounce bottle of hand sanitizer, a purse-sized tube hand sanitizer, two pairs of gloves, and two children's masks. She will also be sharing information on how residents can help stop the spread of COVID-19.

The giveaway is co-sponsored by Buffalo Science Charter School, current Erie County Legislator Howard Johnson, and current City Of Buffalo Fillmore District Council Member Mitch Nowakowski. We Are Women Warriors Organization is an organization founded by Betty Jean Grant. She began the organization in 2012 after the murder of Trayvon Martin. Betty Jean drove around a Chevrolet 'PPE SUV' this summer, handing out free personal protective equipment and educating residents in Buffalo about COVID-19.

Delavan Grider Vaccination Site Open and Accepting Appointments

This has been a good week for making strides against the coronavirus. A new vaccination site, sponsored by New York State and the Federal Government, has opened at the Delavan Grider Community Center in Buffalo. The goal of the site is to vaccinate 1,000 people per day. Residents can find out if they are eligible to set up an appointment to get vaccinated by using the State's 'Am I Eligible' website or by calling the COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline at 1-833-697-4829. You can also check out our comprehensive list of pharmacies and other locations in Western New York that are offering vaccinations. Please call ahead as there is no guarantee they have any appointments available.
