Buffalo Moving Forward With Plans For Outer Harbor Concert Venue

Live music and Buffalo's Waterfront have always been in perfect harmony.

For a long time, temporary pop-up stages have been the platform for many concerts in the Outer Harbor and Canalside, but soon there could be a new permanent concert amphitheater on the water.

WGRZ reports plans for the proposed 8,000 seat venue have been approved by the Buffalo Planning Board.

Following approval, the project will be put out for bids by developers by late fall. If this happens, the new venue could be open for concerts and events by 2023.

WGRZ reports the groundbreaking for the venue will happen this fall at a cost of $10 million. The project is being funded using Buffalo Billion money.

Plans call for the amphitheater to be located at the site of the former Tops Markets LLC warehouse, known as Terminal B., at 901 Fuhrmann Blvd.

According to planners, the current warehouse would be stripped to its supports and rebuilt to fit the design of the amphitheater.

The plans look really interesting, with the warehouse structure serving as space for the main stage enclosure, while preserving the view of the water behind it.

Once the Outer Harbor venue is built, Buffalo Business First reports it is likely that the Canalside concert series will make the new Outer Harbor amphitheater its new home.

The proposed concert and event venue is one of the largest projects in the city's 20-year, $151 million Outer Harbor development plan.
