Buffalo Man Charged For Stealing Fire Truck And 50 Bottles Of Liquor
A Buffalo man has been arraigned for allegedly stealing a fire truck, then burglarizing a restaurant, and stealing $2,000 worth of liquor. Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced that the 25-year-old man was arraigned on the morning of Friday, July 15, 2022, before Buffalo City Court Judge Carrie Phillips. Yassin A. Abdikadir is charged with the following offenses:
- One count of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree (Class “E” felony)
- One count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree (Class “E” felony)
- One count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree (Class “A” misdemeanor)
- One count of Obstructing Emergency Medical Services (Class “A” misdemeanor)
- One count of Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle in the Third Degree (Class “A” misdemeanor)
- One count of Reckless Driving (unclassified misdemeanor under Vehicle & Traffic Law)
- One count of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree (unclassified misdemeanor under Vehicle & Traffic Law)
- One count of Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting Property Damage (violation under Vehicle & Traffic Law)
On Thursday, July 14, 2022, Abdikadir allegedly stole a fire truck from Buffalo Fire Department Engine 1 just before midnight. He allegedly drove the fire truck and hit three parked cars. He ditched the truck on Delaware Avenue near Allen Street.
The defendant was also arraigned on other charges in connection to robbing a restaurant. At approximately 2:30 am, Abdikadir allegedly broke into a restaurant located on Ellicott Street in Buffalo. He allegedly stole approximately 50 bottles of liquor, worth around $2,000, that were stored in a locked cabinet. The charges he is facing for the burglary are:
One count of Burglary in the Third Degree (Class “D” felony)
One count of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree (Class “E” felony)
One count of Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree (Class “A” misdemeanor)
He is due back in court for both cases on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 9:30 am. He is facing a maximum of 7 years behind bars if convicted of the highest charge against him. Abdikadir was released on his own recognizance. Defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
