Over the last few months, all sorts of scams have been perpetuated against New Yorkers, from deed theft and Airport Scams to scams against Car Owners, Subway Drivers, and even police departments. No one seems immune to scams, including radio stations and their listeners.

The latest scam to hit Western New York involves a man calling people who own or operate hair salons.

The way the scam works is the scammer calls a hairstylist and tells them they won a contest with their local radio station. In order for them to collect the prize, which includes an interview, they must pay a fee via Apple Pay. The scammer, who is calling from a phone number with a 718 Area Code, has been scamming people nationwide.

A quick Google search shows that people have been scammed all over the country, from Atlanta and Philly to San Francisco, Memphis, and beyond.
