Dozens Of Jobs Available At City Hall In Buffalo
The last few weeks in Buffalo have been pretty interesting on the local government front. Since residents of the Empire State wrapped up the 2025 local and county election cycle, we've seen new government administrations getting ready to come into power in New York State's two largest cities.
In New York City, New York State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani is getting ready to take over the reins from Eric Adams, and in Buffalo, State Senator Sean Ryan is on the verge of taking over from Common Council President Chris Scanlon.
Both cities are getting ready to see some big changes in their city hall, but it may be Buffalo that is in for the biggest change.
Dozens Of Jobs Available At City Hall In Buffalo
Buffalo, which has been running under the control of the same people for nearly two decades, hasn't seen a whole lot of change in City Hall. While the city itself has changed quite a bit since 2006, the halls of city government have been pretty stagnant for the last 20 years. Even when Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown resigned to take a new job, and Buffalo Common Council President Scanlon took over as acting Mayor, the overall structure of city government stayed the same, with a lot of the same people in charge of city departments as there had been under Brown.
That, of course, is poised to look a lot different as Mayor-Elect Ryan has essentially pledged to clean house in City Hall and has already started to do so with a restructure of the Deputy Mayor position.
According to WIVB-TV, Ryan and his transition team will use four Deputy Mayors to help increase operational capacity and clear the bottlenecks that currently happen in city government.
Our incoming deputy mayors are deeply respected local leaders with diverse strengths... Their experience will be integral to delivering the capable, responsive leadership needed to help every department in City Hall operate to its highest potential.
-Sean Ryan, Mayor Elect of Buffalo, New York
In addition, Ryan has publicly advertised dozens of top jobs at City Hall.
He's searching for new people to fill leadership and other roles in just about every office in city government: from Commissioner of Economic Development, Permits, and Inspection Services to the Director of Treasury and Collections, every job seems to be up for grabs for the new city administration.
This all positions Buffalo to improve for the future, as the old ways don't seem to be working, especially since Buffalo has a huge financial deficit to recover from.
