$500+ Buffalo Bills Tickets May Become The New Normal
People in Western New York love the Buffalo Bills, but will they pay over $500 to go to a game?
The big debate in Buffalo lately isn't about whether a new stadium would be coming to Western New York for the Bills, but where to put it. Do we build a new one in Orchard Park as we did back in the '70s? Or is it time to move the stadium downtown? There's a lot to unpack there.
Either way they choose to go with it, a new stadium is coming. And with that, we can probably expect that tickets are going to cost more as well. They're proposing that the stadium capacity will be less than the current stadium too. What does that mean for ticket prices? You wouldn't assume that they will take seats out (sell fewer tickets) and charge less would you? That would be a massive loss of income. That's not going to happen.
According to The Street, The Bills are 28th (out of 32) on a list of the most and least expensive tickets in the NFL. With an average ticket price of $105 for one ticket and a cost of $148 for two beers, two hot dogs, two t-shirts and remote parking, people can expect to pay $358 for two people to go to the game. And actually...that's 2019 prices.
A website called bookies.com did a little work for us to determine what we might end up paying in a couple years. Because they think that most people have a hard time purchasing tickets through official sources they analyzed the average ticket resale value vs face value for each NFL franchise, as well as estimated the percentage increase by 2030.
It doesn't look good.
They're estimating that secondary market tickets for the Bills in 2030 could soar as high as $555 per ticket! That's an increase of 449%! That puts them in the top 5 in the NFL when it comes to price increases.
Now, while nothing is official and this is just a prediction of where things are going, that could be a huge issue for The Bills. This is a blue-collar city. It doesn't matter what the product on the field is. At that price it could become very hard to fill seats.
