Buffalo, New York Ranked As 2nd Best Midsized City For Sports
How many times have you heard the saying that Buffalo is a drinking city with a sports problem? I know I have heard it several times over the years, and I can say in my experience, it's true.
Buffalonians love a few things with their entire heart: food, drinking, the Buffalo Bills, and the Buffalo Sabres.
Given that, imagine our surprise to this new survey that ranks Buffalo as only the 2nd best-midsized sports city.
What Cities Are The Best Sports Cities In America?
Sports in America is big business, holding the attention of millions of people while generating billions of dollars. It often doesn't matter what sport or performance level; Americans love their sports.
WalletHub compiled data from nearly 400 cities in the United States, ranking them across more than 50 different metrics to come up with a listing of the top sports cities in America. They then broke them down by city population size: Large cities - more than 300,000 people, Midsize cities - 100,000 to 300,000 people, and Small cities - Fewer than 100,000 people, to develop their rankings.
According to the data, the top five sports cities, regardless of their size, are: Los Angeles, Boston, Pittsburgh, New York City, and Dallas, TX.
Putting our Buffalo bias aside, it's not hard to see how at least 3 of these cities made the top 5. The list gets even more interesting when you separate it by population size.
Los Angeles, Green Bay, WI, and Clemson, SC sit at the top of each of the respective size categories, which is respectable, albeit wrong for the midsize category.
Why Buffalo Should Be The Number 1 Midsized Sports City
Don't get me wrong; I am a huge Green Bay Packers fan (and stockholder). I've been a fan since I met with the Majikman, Don Majkowski, in 1988. However, my affinity for Titletown doesn't outweigh the two reasons why Buffalo should hold the top spot.
Reason Number 1: The Buffalo Sabres
Reason Number 2: The Buffalo Bills
What more reason do you need to rank Buffalo as number one?
You can check out the entire survey, including their methodology, here on the WalletHub website. I'm sure once you crunch the data, you'll reach the same conclusion I did.
