Beware Of This New Venmo Scam
Venmo is pretty convenient. The app allows friends to send money to their accounts quick and efficiently.
However, like most things these days, scammers are trying to use the app to steal money from users.
According to WGRZ, a Massachusetts police department's warning about a Venmo phishing scam is gaining attention across the country.
How it works is a scammer sends a text to your phone. They say that a charge will be made to your Venmo account and send you a link to a fake website that is made to look like Venmo to cancel the fake charge.
The scammers ask you to enter your banking info to "verify" who you are.
"Do not use the pages provided by the text to enter into your account. Go to your venmo app or use the internet site," Dighton Police Department's warning stated.
Best thing to do, as is with all scam texts or calls is to ignore and/or delete the message.
