This morning (Sept. 21), the hip-hop community was hit with devastating news that Shawty Lo was killed after suffering injuries in a horrific car accident in his hometown of Atlanta.

Initially thought to be a hit and run, reports indicate that Shawty Lo, who was the driver, lost control of a white Audi, which caused the vehicle to go over a guardrail. The car then crashed into trees and caught fire. Two other passengers were in the car and both were taken to the hospital with injuries. Johnnie Cabbell, Lo's manager, called into The Breakfast Club to confirm the news and said that the rapper "died on site." Lo was 40 years old and is survived by 11 children.

As hip-hop mourns the loss of the Shawty Lo, XXL wants to take the time out to remember the fallen rapper. Lo got his first big break when he was a member of rap group D4L. In 2003, he launched the his own independent record label, D4L Entertainment, and the group released colossal hits such as “Laffy Taffy,” which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Betcha Can't Do It Like Me," which peaked at No. 72 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The two singles were off D4L’s debut album, Down for Life, which is certified gold by the RIAA and helped make snap music extremely popular in pop culture. Shawty Lo went solo and struck gold with“Dey Know” in 2007, his most memorable song in his catalog. The Units in the City rhymer has a ton of other records in his discography that became fan favorites and lead him to hold the title as one of the ATL OGs. To honor the late rapper, we dug deep and put together a list of Shawty Lo's best guest appearances.
