Amherst is One of the Safest Mid-Sized Cities in the U.S.
Amherst landed on the list, in the top 20, for safest mid-sized cities in the United States.
The list, comprised by AdvisorSmith, ranks Amherst among the top 20 safest mid-sized cities, according to WIVB. Amherst came in number 14 on the list. The cities rankings are based off violent and property crime rates. According to the study, cities with 100,000 to 300,000 residents were categorized as midsize cities. Amherst had a population of 122,366, according to the 2010 census via WGRZ. Of the mid-sized cities, the safest, according to the study, is Cary, North Carolina.
Buffalo, by contrast, did not land within the top 25 large cities. The data provided by AdvisorSmith did not show rankings beyond 25.
