There has always been a need for housing that seniors could afford in a convenient location, close to public transportation, shopping, and other necessities. According to WGRZ, the state just recently announced the start of construction for La Plaza de Virginia, the new complex will be located on Virginia Street on the West Side of Buffalo.

The new project will include 46 supportive homes with a Community Senior Center and a Cafe', the total cost will be around $17 million dollars. A non-profit organization, Hispanos Unidos de Buffalo, developed this project to provide integrated social services to underserved communities in the Buffalo area.

According to WGRZ, La Plaza de Virginia will have one-bedroom apartments and they will be available for seniors at or below 60% of the Area Median Income. The project will also set aside some of the apartments for people that were previously homeless seniors, they will receive supportive services to help ease their transition into this type of housing setting.

New York has made unprecedented investments in affordable and supportive housing developments, creating vibrant communities for seniors on fixed incomes to lead fulfilling lives in every corner of the state.

The building will be very well designed with a courtyard, lounge, and laundry rooms on each floor. Another nice thing about this project is, there will be space set aside for primary health care for tenants and local residents.
